Events in Latrobe

Latrobe City is the host and home to many local, national and international events ranging from sports to festivals and fairs to expos with everything in between. Major events held annually include the Victorian and International Junior Tennis Championships and the Water Ski Championships. Latrobe City is also the home of Moe’s TRUenergy Yallourn Jazz and Blues Festival, one of the best in the state. This event is held annually over the Labour Day long weekend in March and attracts thousands of visitors every year.

The Moe Cup is Gippsland's most prestigious horse racing event where spectators can enjoy a day of high fashion and get that winning feeling. Held annually in October, the Moe Cup is part of a cluster of racing events called the Power of Racing held during the spring racing carnival season.

Other events include:

  • Oktoberfest held annually in October by the German Club, this is a great day to sample German beer and food. 
  • The Boolarra Folk Festival is held annually in February and is a great day of music, art and craft stalls and local produce.
  • Festival Latrobe, a cluster of events involving food, wine and culture held annually from February to March.
  • The Victorian Darts Open held in June

Sunday 5 September - Annual FathersDay Car Show

 The 3rd Annual Fathers Day Car show will be taking place at Old Gippstown on Sunday 5th September. This is a great day for the whole family with OG's Coffee Shop open all day serving good old fashion meals, snacks, refreshments and great coffee. There will be a BBQ brekkie and lunch. Cars of all makes and models are welcome and there will be trophies, Just Cars show bags, prizes and fun for all. Come along and support the 'Original' first Moe Car Show, all proceeds go to Old Gippstown, Gippslands Heritage Park for the preservation of the buildings and artefacts within. Wednesday 8 September - Music Students Set to Rock

 

Students from GippsTAFE in Morwell will be putting their skills to the test to raise money for the Gippsland Rotary Centenary House at the Latrobe Regional Hospital. The performance will feature a mixture of jazz, rock and much more. Being held at Flanagan's Irish Bar in Traralgon, the nght kicks off at 7.30pm and entry is by a gold coin donation. Friday 10 September - NBL Pre Season Game

 

The Melbourne Tigers will face off against the Wollongong Hawks in Traralgon as they prepare for the upcoming National Basketball League season. The game will begin at 7.00pm at the Latrobe Leisure Traralgon Sports Stadium. Tickets will be available at the door on the night but to pre book tickets contact the Traralgon Box Office on 51763559.

 


Saturday 11 September - Latrobe Visitor Information Centre Open Day

Monday 6 September to Sunday 12 September is Victorian Tourism Week and to celebrate this week the Latrobe Visitor Information Centre wants to help you discover ‘What’s In Your Own Backyard’. Have you ever visited an information centre before? Do you want to get out and explore our region but you are not sure how? Come along to the Latrobe Visitor Information Center’s Inaugural Open Day on Saturday 11 September 2010 from 9.00am to 5.00pm. The Lions Club will be providing a free sausage sizzle from 11.00am to 1.00pm and each visitor will receive a free show bag (limit one per family) containing lots of information on our region and goodies to take away. While you are visiting us in the centre you can fill in an entry form to go in the draw to win some fantastic prizes supported by Tourism Alliance Victoria. “Talk to a Local and discover What’s In Your Backyard!”


 

Saturday 11 September - Spring Fashion Ladies Luncheon

 

Do you have your outfit for this year Spring Racing Carnival? If not, here is your chance to see the latest fashions at the Spring Fashion Ladies Luncheon. Ladies can gather in the immaculately decorated Function Centre for a day of fun and fashion. This day is a great prelude to the Moe Cup with a first look at spring racing fashion for the season. The day kicks off with champagne on arrival and lots of fun games and activities to get everyone in the right mood. There are prizes and giveaways running all day, a spectacular fashion show highlighting all the latest carnival trends, a special host to keep the party going and to run the fun activities throughout the day.

The package includes a two course plated luncheon with 2 bottles of wine on the table. There will be a cash bar with tea and coffee facilities available. The fashion show runs throughout the day with lunch served during intervals, and to make things interesting there is a menswear section for those looking for outfits for their men. Saturday 18 September - Izzi Dye and Leslie Martin Dinner Show

Being held at the Morwell Club on the Old Princes Highway in Morwell this buffet dinner and show begins at 8.00pm amd finishes as 11.00pm. The cost is $25.00 and bookings are recommended.


Saturday 2 October - 10 Annual Oktoberfest Family Fun Day

Club Astoria are proud to host the 10th annual Oktoberfest from 10.30am to 5.00pm at Club Astoria in Maryvale Crescent in Morwell. There will be a German Beer Barn, a selection of German food including Kranskies, Kartoffelpuffer, Sauerkraut, Port Hocks and Aussie hamburgers and sausages as well as coffe, cakes and craft stalls and face painting and a jumping castle for the kids. Entry is by a gold coin donation and all proceeds go to the Latrobe Regional Hospital and St John's Ambulance Morwell. Thursday 14 October - GPG Moe Cup

The Spring Carnival glitz & glamour comes to Moe this premier day of the year with the $130,000 GPG Moe Cup. The Moe Racing Club never fails to rise to the occasion on Moe Cup Day, a fun day where almost anything goes. Over many years this day has grown to attract over 10,000 people through the gates and has gained a reputation as being the biggest social and sporting event in Gippsland. This draws the fashion conscious crowd for one of the biggest events, the Mid Valley Fashion on the Field Competition with a prize pool to match. There is loads of entertainment throughout the day with roving musical and comical entertainers and FREE kids activities to keep everyone happy. For those who want to be where the action is there are different club marquees to suit all preferences, and for the private function there are corporate and mini marquees available. Sunday 17 October - Japanese Day

Held at Kernot Hall in Morwell from 11.00am to 4.00pm, Japanese Day celebrates the Sister City relationship with Takasago City, Japan. Now in its seventh year, Japanese Day is a unique community day enjoyed by all who delight in exploring Japanese culture and discovering more about our Sister City of Takasago and the Japanese people.
