Getting to the Mountain / Transport Services

If you are driving, by law you MUST carry chains (including 4WD) on the mountain regardless of whether you are required to fit them.  If planning to drive, check the road conditions before you leave home by contacting 1300 651 136 or checking the daily snow report.

How to get there, SELF DRIVE:

Mt Baw Baw is just a 2.5 hours drive from Melbourne or a 1.5 hour drive from Traralgon.

The NEW South Face Road is now OPEN!

The South Face Road is the quickest route (via Rawson and Erica) from Traralgon.  Travel time between Erica and Rawson to Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort is less than 40 minutes.

The South Face Road is unsealed, but it provides all weather access without steep gradients or sharp hairpin bends. The road was developed as a logging road and has been designed to modern transport standards. In winter, the South Face Road is cleared of snow.

A major intersection with new ticket office and entry gate has been developed at the Neulynes Mill site on the Mt Baw Baw Tourist Road.

From Traralgon: Turn at set of traffic lights at McDonalds in town centre of Traralgon.  Travel along Grey Street and follow signs to Tyers/Walhalla (C477, C481, C461).  Continue on the C481 through Rawson.  At Parkers Corner, turn right onto the Thomson Valley Road.  3km along, turn left onto South Face Road.  PLEASE NOTE: The South Face Road is 25km long.  The advised maximum speed is 50km/h.  The South Face Road is unsealed, drive with care and reduce your seppd.  Turn on your headlights for greater visibility and watch out for wildlife. Slow down and enjoy the drive.

From Melbourne: Take a scenic drive via the Princes Highway turning off at Robin Hood, or alternatively, drive along the Warburton Highway and turn off at Yarra Junction continuing through Powelltown which joins the main road at Noojee.  Either way, the journey is less than 160km from Melbourne’s CBD and even less from the southern or eastern suburbs.  The road to the day car park is sealed, maintained and an easy walk to the Village Central.
