Snow Chain Hire

By law all vehicles including 4WD must carry chains.  Learn how to put them on before arriving and fit chains where advised.  Ladder chains may be used however diamond pattern chains are highly recommended.  It doesn’t matter which direction you are coming from, you can hire chains along the way.

Mt Baw Baw is just a 2.5 hours drive from Melbourne or a 1.5 hour drive from Traralgon. The South Face Road is unsealed, but it provides all weather access without steep gradients or sharp hairpin bends. The road was developed as a logging road and has been designed to modern transport standards. In winter, the South Face Road is cleared of snow.  A major intersection with new ticket office and entry gate has been developed at the Neulynes Mill site on the Mt Baw Baw Tourist Road.
