MINI HA HA FALLS 

Hiawatha

Access: From Yarram via Church Road opposite the Hospital

 
Take the return walk from the car park to the falls. This is a quiet picnic area tucked away at the foot of the hills to the west of Yarram, a great place for the family to relax and play. 
Camping is permitted.

WHITE WOMANS WATERHOLE RECREATION RESERVE
           
Located in the Won Wron State Forest at the junction of Napier and Lowes Roads, 5km east of Won Wron.
 
A 1 hour, 2km walking track starts at the eastern end of the picnic area near the toilet, and is defined by posts and triangular track markers. Some of the features of the track include grey gums and saw banksias growing along the creek, the open and diverse composition of the forest, and the wildlife which lives in the area such as koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and goannas just to name a few.

AGNES FALLS SCENIC RESERVE
           
The waterfall is reached from the South Gippsland Hwy at Toora by following Silcocks Hill Rd, Hazel Park Rd and Agnes Falls Rd. Alternatively the Reserve can be reached from Welshpool via Slade Hill Rd and Hazel Park Rd.
 
Hidden within the green rolling hills of the StrzeleckiRanges, the meandering AgnesRiver cascades over rocks into a deep, picturesque gorge. At 59 metres, it is the highest single span falls in Victoria. After heavy rain, the river falls as a spectacular cascade into the gorge. An easy 200m walking track leads from the car park to a viewing area overlooking the falls. A small picnic ground set among tall blue gums on the grassy banks of the river is the centrepiece of a six hectare scenic reserve.

BAROMI PARK
Central Mirboo North
           
There is a ‘spinal walk’ that goes through Baromi Park, which is a broad semi open area within the town centre that feature a number facilities, including a monument to Count Strzlecki, and a war memorial. By following the pathways around the park you can see the HistoricRailwayBuilding and GrainStoreBuilding as well as the wonderful views to the surrounding countryside.

LYREBIRD FOREST WALK
           
2.8 km north of Mirboo North on the Strzelecki Hwy, this walk consists of two walks totalling approximately 4.8km as it winds through the StrzeleckiStateForest... Stroll through the gully by the Little Morwell River where platypus have been spotted, continue your walk across the bridge to the Coral Fern Gully.

This part of the Strzelecki Ranges takes in the natural beauty of the Stringy Barks, Grey Gum, Banksia, soft ferns and tree ferns. Amongst the vast range of native plants the LyrebirdForest is home to Lyrebirds, Crimson Rosellas, short and long nosed bandicoots, koala, wombat, black wallaby, echidna, black cockatoos, and many, many more birds and animals.  A night walk with a torch can be particularly rewarding.

   Along the Little Morwell River there is a section of the walk that is wheelchair accessible.

MIRBOO NORTH - BOOLARRA RAIL TRAIL
Mirboo North – Boolarra Rail Trail
           
Grade: Easy
Distance: 13km
Time: Allow 4 hours one way
 
Commences at Grand Ridge Brewery, Mirboo North or from the Old Pub in Boolarra.
This signposted trail on a well formed surface follows the scenic route of the former Mirboo North to Boolarra Railway, which operated through the StrzeleckiRanges between 1885 and 1974. It follows the picturesque Little Morwell River Valley and features a wide range of native animals and bird life and towering mountain eucalypts.

TURTONS CREEK
 
                                                                                                                                                                                     
Off Grand Ridge road, near Mirboo North. Access is via the South Gippsland Highway – turn left at Amey’s track and then onto Nippards Track – there are signs. 
 
It is approximately 1.5km from the camping ground to the waterfall – the walking track is sign posted and has a carpark at both ends. 
Sightseeing, walking, photography, nature study.

TARWIN RIVER BOARDWALK
           
Beginning at the west end of Tarwin Lower, you can stroll along the river bank and past the historic 100+ year old hotel and craft shops before joining the boardwalk, which takes you riverside of the beautiful Tarwin River where birdlife is abundant. Also see the longest barbeque table in Victoria. Continue on past the Old Butter factory to the top of the town.

LEONGATHA TO KOONWARRA RAIL TRAIL (The Great Southern Rail Trail)
           
Distance: 7.5km
This gently undulating, smooth gravel trail traverses open farmland with bush near Koonwarra.
From Leongatha, on the South Gippsland Hwy, the trail begins at HorticulturalPark at the southern end of Bair St. From here it turns east and crosses the old railway line.
From Koonwarra the trail starts 200m north of the Koonwarra Café. The crossing is sign posted.

CAPE LIPTRAP COASTAL PARK
 
CapeLiptrap is reached from the South Gippsland Highway at Leongatha or the Bass Highway from Inverloch.
 
 
Point Smythe Nature Trail
 
Distance: 6km Circuit
Time: about 2 hours
This circuit walk takes you to Anderson Inlet then through thick coastal vegetation typical to the park. This track is particularly sheltered on windy days along the coast.
 
Anderson Inlet Walk
 
Distance: 2km one way
Time: 40 min each way
This track follows the southern edge of Anderson Inlet east to the car park at Doyles Rd. The track takes you along the intertidal mudflats of the inlet where you can see a great variety of marine plants and animals including mangroves rich in bird life.
 
Limeburners Walk (Walkerville North-South Link Track)
 
Distance: 750m
Time: about 15min one way
This track links the north and south settlements of Walkerville through strands of drooping sheoak and past limestone cliffs and the ruins of 6 lime kilns. A short side track leads to the historic WalkervilleCemetery.
 
Walkerville North – Prom View Estate
 
Distance: 1.2km
Time: Approx. 45min one way
This track links the caravan park at Walkerville North with the Prom View Estate. The track leads through coastal woodlands with a diverse understorey. A side track (700m) leads to a viewing platform overlooking WaratahBay with the peaks of Wilson’s Promontory as a backdrop.

CORNER INLET AND NOORAMUNGA MARINE AND COASTAL PARK
 
Nooramunga Marine and CoastalPark and Corner Inlet Marine and Coastal Park are reached from the South Gippsland Hwy via Port Welshpool, Port Albert, McLoughlinsBeach and Yanakie.     
Corner Inlet and NooramungaCoastalParks consist of shallow marine waters, intertidal mudflats and a series of over 40 sand islands.
 
 
McLoughlinsBeach Jetty to 90 Mile Beach
Grade: Gentle
Distance 1km each way
Time: 20 min each way
This delightful track takes you to the pounding surf of the 90 mile beach, passing on the way areas of saltmarsh, mangrove, coastal woodlands and sand dunes. Be sure to look out for wading birds on the mudflats and bush birds and wildflowers in the woodland.
 
McLoughlinsBeach Jetty to McLoughlins Point
Distance: 6km
Time: 2 Hours each way
This walk is an extension of the above walk and takes you through coastal scrub to the end of McLoughlins Point. Walkers are warned to keep clear of the unstable sand cliffs at the point. You can turn this walk into a loop by returning via the ocean beach or inlet beach if the tide is suitable.
 
 
Old Port Trail - Port Albert to Seabank
 
Distance: 6km
Time: 1.5 hours one way
The trail is a walk into the past, passing close to the site where Angus McMillan first reached the coast and the site of the original settlement. The trail also offers the walker a chance to glimpse the variety of habitats that make the park so fascinating. A car shuttle is recommended for people who do not want to retrace their steps.
 
 
Duck Point
 
Distance: 800m
Time: 30 min return
Commencing on Foley Rd, this trail leads through thickets of coastal tea-tree to the sheltered waters of Corner Inlet. Scenic views across the inlet to the peaks of WilsonsPromontoryNational Park are a feature of this walk.
 
 
Other Walks
 
The beaches of the barrier islands provide an excellent venue for a beach walk. Access is by boat and all islands can be circumnavigated in three to five hours. Knowledge of the tides is essential to safely walk the ocean beaches. SnakeIsland offers the overnight hiker a variety of easy walks passing through the varied communities of the island.

GEORGE BASS COASTAL WALK

 

 

 

Starting at the southern end of Punchbowl Rd off the Phillip Island Tourist Rd, this coastal walk heads east toward Kilcunda on cliffs that rise high above secluded beaches. The trail is well signposted. Abundant birdlife and coastal flora can be seen along the trail. Visitors may also like to start from the Bass Hwy in Kilcunda. The Anderson to Wonthaggi Rail Trail can be used to provide a return loop from Kilcunda to Anderson.

Distance: 7km

Time: 2 hours one way

 Please note: Beaches along the walk are unsuitable for swimming due to the presence of strong undertows, rips and steep sloping sandy bottoms. Fishing or walking near the water's edge can be extremely dangerous as swells and large waves can crash up against the rocky coastline. The cliffs in this area are unstable. Please keep to the walking track and remain well clear of the cliff edge.

Tidal Overlook – Squeaky Beach Walk

Grade: Easy
Distance: 7.5km
Time: Allow 3 hours
This walk is just north of the Tidal River Camping Ground. The walk along the ridge permits good views both north and south along the Prom’ and of several rugged offshore islands. A circuit from the car park is suggested as a most rewarding walk and can be followed by a refreshing swim at Squeaky Beach.
 

Tidal River To Squeaky Beach

 
Grade: Moderate
Distance: 3.5km
Time: 1.5 hours one way
Start at the Tidal River Information Centre. Follow the Loo-Errn Track through the forest of swamp paperbark trees to the river. Take the boardwalk to the footbridge and follow the signs through the coast tea-trees. You can take a short detour to the Pillar Point lookout where you can view Norman Bay and the islands, and rejoin the track down to Squeaky Beach.

Lilly Pilly Gully Nature Walk

Grade: Gentle
Distance: 5km
Time: 2 hours return
Start at Lilly Pilly Gully Car Park. This path provides an excellent introduction to the valley’s bird and plant life, and shows the best places to see the local koalas and homes of the area’s yabbies. The track then rises toward the eucalypt forests on Mt Bishop. You can detour to Mt Bishop from the signpost along the trail. This detour is approx 2km and will take 45min one way along the steep incline. From the summit of Mt Bishop you can see dramatic views over Tidal River and the neighbouring islands. Return down the trail from Mt Bishop and continue along the Lilly Pilly Gully Walk back to the car park.

Loo-Errn Track

Distance: 1km
Time: 20-30min
Especially designed for people with limited mobility, the track includes a boardwalk and fishing stations along Tidal River. Start at the car park opposite the Information Centre, or at the footbridge over Tidal River.

 

Tidal River/Norman Bay

Distance: 0.5km
Time: 10-15min
Various tracks provide easy access from the camping area to the river and to Norman Bay where there are fine coastal views.
 
Lilly Pilly Car Park Link
Distance: 1.3km
Time: 30min
Provides some of the best views of Tidal River settlement and the river catchment area, passing through a range of different environments, particularly coastal heathland. Links Tidal River with Lilly Pilly Car Park.
 
Whale Rock
Distance: 500m
Time: 15-20min round trip
This track starts near the end and to the left of the footbridge over Tidal River, winding through a range of plant communities.
 
Squeaky Beach
Distance: 2.4km
Time: 40min
Starting at the footbridge this popular walk provides fine coastal views. The walk can also be done in reverse from the Squeaky Beach car park.
 
Pillar Point
Distance: 1.8km
Time: 20-30min
Starting at the footbridge, this track features good views of Norman Bay out to the Glenie group of islands and Mt Oberon.
 
Tidal Overlook
Distance: 2.2km
Time: 45min
The track provides fine views of Tidal River and Norman Bay. For a longer circuit walk you can continue via the Link Track back to Tidal River. Round trip 4.4km.
 
South Norman/Little Oberon Bay
Distance: 4km
Time: 1.5 hours
Walk down Norman Bay (or take the inland track from Tidal River starting near the Information Centre) then follow the track around to Little Oberon Bay. Excellent Coastal scenery.

Squeaky Beach to Picnic Bay
 
Distance: 1.8km
Time: 30min
Starting halfway along the access track from Squeaky Beach car park to the beach. This track provides spectacular coastal views between Squeaky Beach and Picnic Beach. It passes through varied coast and heathland vegetation. This walk links with the Tidal River to Squeaky Beach track for a 4km walk.
 
Picnic Bay/Whisky Bay
 
Distances: 500m
Time: 10-15 min each track
Walking tracks lead from separate car parks to these beautiful beaches.
 
Mt Bishop
 
Distance: 3.6km
Time: 1 hour
Starting from the Lilly Pilly car park, the track follows part of the northern section of the Lilly Pilly Gully Nature Walk (see notes above), then a rough track to the summit.
 
 Mt Oberon Nature Walk
 
Distance: 3.2km
Time: 1 hour
The track starts at the Mt Oberon car park and follows a moderate to steep grade. Very steep with steps near the summit. Outstanding views.
 
Darby River and Beach
Distance: 1km
Time: 15min
A wide, level track starts from the Darby River car park (11.6km from Tidal River) and leads on to Darby Beach.
 
Day Walks – Southern Section
 
Tongue Point
 
Distance: 6.3km
Time: 2.5 hours
The track starts at Darby Saddle (on the main road 6.7km from Tidal River) and leads out to Tongue Point. Short side tracks lead to Sparkes Lookout and Fairy Cove. A branch track to Darby River car park (3.5km) is recommended for the return trip. If taking this route, you may wish to arrange for a car to be left at Darby River car park.
 
Oberon Bay
 
Distance: 7.3km
Time: 2.5 hours
Walk to Little Oberon Bay then follow the track to Oberon Bay. The walk can be extended by walking inland along the track to the Lighthouse Track, and on to Mt Oberon car park.
 
Sealers Cove
 
Distance: 9.5km
Time: 2.5 hours
Starting at Mt Oberon car park, this popular track leads to Windy Saddle (3km) and then the secluded Sealers Cove.
 
 
Short Walks – Northern Section
 
Cotter’s Beach
 
Distance: 1.2km
Time: 30min each way
A track leads from the car park through a swampy area (a lake in wet seasons) to remote Cotter’s Beach.
 
Millers Landing Nature walk
 
Distance: 2km
Time: 1 hour each way
The track starts at the car park on the Five Mile Road, 21km north of Tidal River. Banksia woodlands, fine views and mangrove flats are features of the walk. A nature walk leaflet is available at the start of the walk.
 
Vereker Outlook
 
Distance: 3.1km
Time: 1 hour 15min each way
Leave your car at the car park along the Five Mile Road. Walk up the road 1.4km then turn right at the track sign. Banksia and eucalypt woodland, granite boulders and magnificent views across the Corner Inlet Marine and Coastal Park are the highlights. Some sections are steep and rocky but the track is generally well graded. A new section of track bypasses the initial section of the Five Mile Road to the starting point of the Vereker Outlook Track.
 
Millers Landing Link
 
Distance: 1km
This track links the Vereker Outlook track with Millers Landing.

Day Walks – Northern Section
Situated along the Five Mile Road, this cool rainforest community, which fringes Chinamans Creek, is an ideal location for a picnic, and forms a stark contrast to the surrounding heathland along much of Five Mile Road.
